Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Power Read programming is on hiatus effective March 16-April 13, 2020
Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers, students, staff, school and community partners! So far this school year we have 611 Power Read volunteer mentors serving 691 students in 9 school districts in Central Iowa. Together we have completed over 101,836 pages and 2,075 books during our one-to-one shared reading sessions. And we have given away more than 3,400 free books to children. All of this is possible because of your support and commitment.
Based on recent news and information we have decided to cease all Power Read programming until Monday, April 13, 2020. We want to ensure a safe environment for all students, mentors, and our staff. With DMPS extending their spring break and last night’s request by Governor Reynolds for all schools to close for 4 weeks, we are also ceasing our Power Read programming.
The Board and I will be reviewing this decision on a regular basis and will communicate any new information as soon as possible. We want to protect and promote the health of all individuals impacted by our programming and will continue to assess and inform you as much as possible. Staff will be in contact with volunteers to confirm the date we will resume our programming.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support of EWI and our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
