
Connie Boesen has been a mentor with Everybody Wins! Iowa for three years. She mentors at Cattell Elementary school in Des Moines. She first became involved with EWI when she was on the Des Moines School Board. She says, “The Board teamed up with United Way and Everybody Wins! Iowa to promote the “Read to Succeed ” program for elementary students. We put together a schedule and went door to door to reach out to community members to become a volunteer and read to a student.”
Outside of EWI she is retired. She owns and operates TEH Concession. She also owns and operates a concession business “Applishus.”
Her favorite part of being a mentor with Everybody Wins! is, “working with the students and seeing their enthusiasm to come read with me each week. The time commitment is minimal for the reward you receive knowing you have made a difference for a child.” Connie has made a difference working with (look up student’s name’
She encourages anybody who wants to be a mentor to join because, “EWI provides the framework for the (Power Read) program and support to all of the mentors.”
Connie also helped expand our Power Read program to her church at Central Presbyterian Church with our only evening program on Tuesdays. Everybody WIns! Iowa thanks Connie for her dedication and support to the students and program.
