Mentor of the Month: Linda Warren

Linda Warren has been a mentor and donor at Monroe Elementary for 4 years.

She joined Everybody Wins! Iowa because, “there was an article in The Des Moines Register a few years ago stating United Way was looking for 500 volunteers to read to students. I had planned to check on this type of volunteering after retiring, but had not yet done so.  This was the impetus and information I needed to get involved.”

She has stayed involved because, “The students are so enthusiastic and enjoy the one-on-one time. Also, it is wonderful to watch their progress as the year goes on. It is so rewarding to read to and with the students.  I think I may enjoy the interaction more than the students I’ve worked with!”

She hopes others will get involved because, “There are many students who need assistance and it is so gratifying for the mentor to know how much he or she has helped the child.”

She is retired, but prior to that she worked for the Social Security Administration. In her free-time she enjoys, “reading, writing letters, doing word puzzles, cross stitching, doing small home improvement projects, and playing along with Jeopardy everyday.”

Everybody Wins! Iowa thanks Linda for her dedication to the program.
