Crestview School of Inquiry has a great group of mentors. Mariann and Ann Culver are a mother/daughter team that take turns coming each week to work with their student. Their student arrived in the United States last fall and only spoke Spanish.
Mariann and Ann have gone above and beyond for their student by checking out books from their library that interest him. This has helped increase his English vocabulary and he now speaks in full sentences! He comes each week with a smile on his face and it’s awesome to see the confidence he has gained.
Mariann has been a mentor for two years and likes giving back to the community. “I am a retired educator and Crestview is a special place to me, because of the diversity,” said Mariann.
Ann has been a mentor for eleven years. “I enjoy mentoring with Everybody Wins! Iowa, because I love working with kids. Being able to make a connection with a child and watch him/her grow in confidence and reading ability over the course of a school year brings me joy. And it’s a wonderful break from the work day,” said Ann.
