Everybody Wins! Iowa often has specific needs for volunteers at community events, to make deliveries, or to help out in other ways beyond Power Read. From dropping off a box of giveaway books to reading at a story time, it’s another great way to support Everybody Wins! Iowa and our mission. If you are willing to help but can’t commit to a weekly reading session, if your schedule has changed and you still want to stay involved, or if you are a current mentor and you want to do a little extra here and there, become an Outreach Ambassador.

Power Read Lead Volunteer
Everybody Wins! Iowa is looking for friendly and organized volunteers to lead our Power Read program at a local school site. As a Lead Volunteer, you’ll play a key role in connecting students and mentors while ensuring the program runs smoothly each week.
What You’ll Do
• Send reminder emails to mentors the day before the program.
• Check student attendance on program mornings and notify mentors if their student is absent.
• Be onsite during the program (1-3 hours) to take attendance, distribute books, and provide support.
• Set up and put away the reading cart.
What We’re Looking For
• Reliable – Our students depend on our continuity!
• Good communication and organizational skills.
• Basic computer knowledge, some comfort with Google Drive.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Availability 1-3 hours weekly, Monday–Friday between 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM depending on the school. (onsite time is only 1 time per week; reminder emails are done the day before and contacting the school for attendance is done the morning of program)

Power Read Mentor
Power Read is Everybody Wins! Iowa’s signature program. Through Power Read, volunteer reading mentors visit a student for one hour each week. The students and volunteer reading mentors spend their time talking, reading aloud one-to-one, and instilling positive attitudes about reading.

We need your expertise!
Do you have a special skill or expertise you can offer to Everybody Wins! Iowa? There are many areas in which Everybody Wins! Iowa could use your expertise, including office assistance, accounting and finance, marketing, public relations, web development and design, and graphic design – just to name a few.
EWI Committees
Everybody Wins! Iowa invites you to join our one of our Board Committees. The committees meet every month for approximately 60 minutes. You can find the descriptions of each committee below.
Public Relations Committee
The purpose of Everybody Wins! Iowa Public Relations Committee is to increase awareness of Everybody Wins! Iowa. The committee will develop and implement a marketing plan to create awareness of the good work that EWI does by building marketing campaigns, holding special events, promoting events, creating advertising and posting on social media platforms, conducting program outreach presentations, and providing oversight for all printed and online publications, such as brochures, flyers, leaflets and whitepapers. This committee often also manages the EWI website directly or oversees someone who does.
The following are the responsibilities of the committee:
- – Developing an annual marketing plan
- – Creating and approving common language for all written content produced on behalf of the organization
- – Creating and maintaining the social media calendar (writing content as well as studying metrics to determine impact)
- – Creating videos, posters, and all other promotional materials (brochures, t-shirts, pens, etc.)
- – Increasing awareness of the program through special events such as book fairs, volunteer fairs, promotional booths, community wide events, etc.
- – Developing methods to attract volunteers for programming and special events
- – Developing the annual special events calendar
Resource Development Committee
The purpose of Everybody Wins! Iowa Resource Development Committee is to seek opportunities to attract corporate sponsors, philanthropists, and large donors; secure grants and endowments; participate in fundraising events, and determine new ways of generating funds for Everybody Wins! Iowa’s literacy and mentoring programs.
The following are the responsibilities of the committee:
- – Gaining individual donors and individual volunteer reading mentors and determining a strategy for contacting and following up with these individuals
- – Developing an individual donor campaign calendar
- – Gaining organizational sponsors (corporate, churches, service clubs, etc.) to fund Power Read programs and recruit volunteer reading mentors
- – Determining strategies for contacting and following up with organizations and developing an organizational recruitment campaign calendar
- – Writing and submitting grants and creating a grant calendar of assignments (all board members will assist with writing grants)
- – Developing an annual fundraising event calendar
